Therapy for Trauma

Something Happened, and It Stayed with You

Something happened that stayed with you.

One thing or many.

A big major event, or something that part of you still questions whether it “counts.”

Either way, it stuck.

You react in ways that don’t make sense to you.

Triggered. Shut down. On edge. Numb.

Right back there sometimes. Disconnected other times.

People look at you and think you’re fine.

You’ve pushed through. You’ve talked about it.

Still, something doesn’t shift.

Your Trauma Was Stored in Isolation

Here’s the part most people miss.

Trauma doesn’t respond to understanding in a straight line.

You can talk about it.

Make sense of it.

Revisit it more than once.

Yet you can still be in a moment and react as if the original traumatic moment is happening right now.

That isn’t you doing it wrong.

The experience got stored in a way that was formed in isolation.

Even when you tell the story out loud, part of the experience still carries the original sense that you were alone in it.

The original moment is the iceberg.

The reaction is the tip you keep seeing.

The work isn’t trying harder to explain what happened.

It’s about what it’s like to have someone there with you when it shows up.

How We’ll Step Into It Together

This is where things can feel unexpected in a therapy session.

I don’t always sit back and just analyze things in a straight line.

There are moments where I might lean into a kind of absurdity with you – saying something a little offbeat, or joining the moment in a way that breaks the usual pattern.

I do this not to make light of what’s happened, but to interrupt the feeling of you being alone in it.

Sometimes it’s in those moments that something shifts. Not because the content changed, but because you’re no longer carrying it by yourself in the same way.

Having someone there with you as you investigate the roots of your trauma makes an enormous difference. It’s how you can finally experience the shift you’ve been seeking for so many years.

Change Starts Now

You don’t have to keep holding this in the same way you have been.

Even if you’ve already talked about it.

Even if you understand some parts of it.

There can still be a different kind of space for whatever it is that has haunted you.

I’m ready to go there with you. I’ll bring along my extensive training as well as my presence.

If this resonates, reach out. We can start there.
